How to play Scrabble

Scrabble is probably one of the most popular word board games that have ever been invented. The board game has a specific set of alphabets that are available in the form of small plastic or wooden squares and each alphabet has a score that can be attributed to it. Letters that are tougher to use in words like 'W', 'Z' 'X', 'Q' and 'Y' have a higher score than letters (like the vowels) that can easily be incorporated in words.

The game can be played by 2 to 4 people and it starts with each of the players picking up 7 letters without being able to see what they are picking. The first word of the game is made from all the letters that are available to the player and the word needs to be placed including the central square on the board. Subsequent words made on the board need to include at least one of the letters that have already been placed on the board to form something like a crossword.

The board is also divided into squares where the square letters pieces can be placed. It also has special notations for specific locations to indicate 'double letter score', 'triple letter score', 'double word score' and 'triple word score'. The scoring pattern involves adding up all the scores of the letter. If a specific letter rests on a double letter score or a triple letter score, the number mentioned on the letter is doubled or tripled. The total score for the word is doubled or tripled if you have been able to place any letter on the double word score or the triple word score.
